U.S. News, that is…

In December, I set a goal — very quietly — to get a national byline published in 2022. Through a series of coincidences, I found myself talking to the new editor of the U.S. News Education vertical on January 6. So began a series of conversations, emails, and furious writing in February. I’m thrilled to share it all paid off this week: I have not one, but two stories up on the site. One is about questions to ask on K-12 school tours; the other is about how to talk to children about Ukraine. Ukraine is difficult to write about — I like writing to be an escape from horrible things going on in the world, and in this case, I had to dig into them. In the end, I found it helpful to get really concrete advice on what we can do. I hope you’ll give it a read, and I hope it helps you too.
